Caspar David Friedrich (1774-1840), was a German painter, considered to be one of the greatest representatives of Romanticism. He was painting winter and fall nature with religious and symbolic elements. The motifs of his works are realistically shown ruins of churches, characters turned back to the viewer and emmersed in contemplation, withered trees, cemeteries, glow of the night and glare of the dawn.
